Well, looks as though the Dropkick Murphys have released a date for their forthcoming studio album - The Warrior's Code...June 21st. Only 76 days to go according to their official site.
Wonder what it'll be like - have any of you guys had a sneak preview?
I know they tried out a song or two on UK audiences last month...though I don't think they went down as well as the band hoped, I think the UK fans wanted to hear all the old stuff!

Ok i was on soulseek the other day and i found someone that already had this cd. I am tempted to download it and buy it later but i will try to wait. Here's the tracklist for "The Warrior's Code".... or at least what this user had. 1. Your Spirits Alive 2. The Warrior's Code 3. Captain Kelly's Kitchen 4. The Walking Dead 5. Sunshine Highway 6. Wicked Sensitive Crew 7. The Burden 8. Citizen CIA 9. The Green Fields Of France 10. Take It And Run 11. I'm Shipping Up To Boston 12. The Auld Triangle 13. The Last Letter Home 14. Tessie
Damn i can't wait for this cd to come out. Some nice traditional covers there and a couple tunes that were left off the singles collection 2. And i guess they will stick to doing 14 songs now instead of 16 every cd like in the past.

yeah according the the dkm site, thats the right tracklisting youve got there. im gonna buy the cd when it comes out anyway so if i can find it on soulseek then i may as well download it and have a listen. they played 'sunshine highway' and 'the burden' when i saw em in brighton recently but the sound was so shi*e i couldnt really make much out. considering dkms usual standard though im sure the album wont dissapoint.

The Auld Triangle?
I am having difficulty imagining how they might approach this.
Are any of these songs available to hear/download anywhere?

yeah thats the same reaction i had to the song "auld triangle", that should sound interesting. the only place i know of where to download them is on soulseek... mabey some other programs. I doubt they would had any audio clips online yet.

ah brendan behan. he wrote some great tunes.
In the women's prison There are seventy women And I wish it was with them That I did dwell Then that auld triangle could go jingle-jangle All along the banks of the Royal Canal
If you ever find a copy of 'borstal boy' by behan i recomend it. gives you a good understanding of what he wrote that song about.

the dkm version is fast (obviously) and, for lack of a better term, catchy. that's not a knock.
also, there's a few tracks that feature piano.

I agree. Great book (I had to read it; my name is Brendan). Haven't heard the Murphys version of the Auld Triangle, but both Shane MacGowan and Ronnie Drew each did great versions of the song. Behan's version of the song isn't that great: www.sasktelwebsite.net/frasm/behan.htm

I've listened to it now also and i wouldn't say it sucks its just a little different. I've been a huge fan for a while now so i'm kinda biased because i like just about anything they put out. The Auld Triangle just sounded weird in a fast more punked out version but it still was good. The cover of the green fields of france has someone singing that doesn't sound like Ken or Al... I don't know mabey it is one of them. The song Tessie also has a clip from the announcer of game 7 of the world series when the red sox won in the beginning of it.

are brendan and dominic behan related? Yes, they are brothers. Dominic Behan wrote the song the Patriot Game.

ok so i downloaded the cd on friday (am gonna buy it anyways) and have had a fair few listens to it now. good album i think, not great but some catchy ol' tunes on there. for me the standout tracks are definatly theyre cover of 'captain kellys kitchen' which is a great great catchy tune with a crackin' singalong chorus. would imagine itd be awesome live. also the 'green fieldsof france' which ive loved for ages anyway and i think they do the song proud, Al actually sings it too, which is nice. beautiful song. i also like 'the last letter home', kinda a classic sounding dkm song. theres a few very average songs on there too, for example 'sunshine highway', 'the burden'. overall i enjoyed the album, only criticism for me is that compared to previous dkm albums, there arent enough awesome tunes on there. good stuff all the same though.

I liked The Porters version of Green Fields of France. How does this version compare?

I've been a fan of these guys for a long time to (do or die was the first album I ever bought, i was 12 years old) sunshine highway is just crap though. I personally liked the porters version of greenfields better, but it isnt to bad.
I beleive brendan behan also wrote McAlpines fuseliers and dominic wrote surounded by water. as well as quite a few others that dont come to mind right now.

Great album. Great bunch of guys so of course I'm going to support it, but unlike the last one, the enjoyment of this one was pretty much instantaneous for me (Some of "Blackout" had to grow on me). I'll refrain from posting a full review until the street date, but this is yet another great one from the fellas.
Someone had mentioned the cover of "The Auld Triangle." I think that might be one of their best covers of a folk song yet.

Sunshine Highway is a catchy song at least for me. I'm not sure why i like that song so much, mabey its the accordian... hell i don't know. The song i don't like as much is that short song "Citizen CIA".

ah id say 'citizen cia' is probably the most old sounding dkm tune on the album, more do or die kinda material. good stuff, but yeah i have to agree with certain people that i think 'sunshine highway' does suck!

I think "Citizen C.I.A." came from a Westies tune called "You're Dead." At least, there used to be a song called "You're Dead" up on the MSC page with the same music, different lyrics.
Anybody have the lyrics for "Sunshine Highway"? It's not my favorite tune on the disc, but it's interesting in its own way.

I'm JW but where did you guys get to hear the album? It somehow got leaked to the net. I'm hoping that myself and all others who have it early will do right by the boys in the band and go buy it the week it comes out, even if we have it early. I'll be picking up at least three copies. One for myself and two for Father's Day gifts.

Could someone possibly email me the tracklisting? I'd love to have a leg up on this one, I think Warrior's Code will be a great album. Along the lines of Sing Loud, Sing Proud.
