I'll second the above....lots of Tom Waits for myself too. Especially the 3-disc 'Orphans' and 'Rain Dogs'.
Aside from that, its been all about The Dreadnoughts record 'Legends Never Die' and the new British Sea Power effort 'Do You Like Rock Music'.

My favorite Tom Waits CD is still his first, Closing Time". Ol' 55, Grapefruit Moon, etc. Great songs. My Dreadnoughts CD is in the mail and I'm looking forward to that one.

Aside from that, its been all about The Dreadnoughts record 'Legends Never Die' and the new British Sea Power effort 'Do You Like Rock Music'. First of all, who is the Dreadnoughts? Second how is the new BSP cd? I liked their first but didn't care too much for the second album they released.

The Dreadnoughts are the new(ish) band with ex-Siobhan singer Ol' Jimmy on vocals. You can have a listen here if you fancy checking them out: www.myspace.com/vancitydreadnoughtsNew BSP....well, the songs are great, but the whole thing has been massively over-produced. They got the fella who produced the Arcade Fire so you can probably imagine what it sounds like. Too trebly and can hardly hear the bass or kick. Still worth getting though as the songs are the main thing after all!

Cypher - Slim Cessna's Auto Club
Dont know why I like these guys, but I keep coming back to them. And upon first listen, this CD seems even weirder than usual. I bet Munly played a big role on this one. Like their music or not, their live act is a must see.

LOL. Yeah it's in English, but you wouldn't know it by listening to them... or reading the lyrics! I have been on a heavy, er, heavy music kick for some reason: Amon Amrath - With Oden On Our Side: Melodic viking death metal. Gallows - various songs: Abrasive yet catchy nu-hardcore. Fronted by the punk Harry Potter!

I happen to believe that the fucking excellent punk rock vocals, all round-delivery and absolute jGUN piping make Flatfoot 56 the rightful inheritors to the Dropkick Murphys' crown. That 'City On A Hill' song and the stuff on Barnacle Brian's shows are fucking great.
However, they seem to have this overt religious thing going on and I know that I'm not the only one who's been put off by that. And I know that at this point someone might want to write "it's all about the music, doesn't matter about minor details" but, you know, a lot of people are justifiably wary about people into bronze age horseshit about women getting turned into pillars of salt and sodomites roasting in the wrathful fires of Heaven, etc. etc.
BUT ... that band have got a mean sound.
Righto, I've been hogging this thing like a bastard. I'll crawl back to my tattoo magazines and convalescent thing for a few days.
Cheers.

We played with them in March and I've hung out with them a few times before then. Very easy to talk to, even about religion (I'm an agnostic myself). I love those guys to death, but all of them (save for Josh) makes me feel short. I'm 6'1 and Tobin is still a head taller than me.

This probably ain't the place to post it but I saw the Murphys a fortnight ago and the new multi-instrumentalist is really on the job (so that's two jacks of all trades in the band now). And I've got me a particularly sweet 'Good Rats' t-shirt !!

Got 6 new CDs this week so they've been spinning around....Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Pennywise, The Briggs, Real McKenzies, Stret Dogs, 5 Hand Reel. Oh and I'm going to join the masses and bang my head at the Disturbed concert in a few days time so have been listening to their latest album a bit too - nice and loud and upsetting the neighbours.

I, too, have been doing the metal scene, but the stuff I have been listening lately has been from the early 1970s!
Lucifer's Friend, Captain Beyond, Sir Lord Baltimore, Armageddon, and Leaf Hound, most recently.
I tend to dig the obscure.

Fastway was great! I remember some "Zeppelin" comparisons back then, too. Maybe not Zep-successors, but some good '80s hard rock.

Can't believe I'm saying this, but
Hank Williams III - Straight To Hell
Irish punk attitude with a twang. Full of songs of (excessive) booze, drugs & women. What's not to like? It ain't his daddy's or grand-daddy's country. It's the first major-label county album to carry a parental-advisory warning. Unbelievably good shite.
