Heard this sad news sunday night and got this from the Shane MacGowan site
We are saddened to announce the death of one of our dearest friends .... Tom Mc Manamon...the Animal or the Beast... or whatever fans called him...he was one of the most talented musicians in the World..and fittingly died with his banjo in his hands...he was in Shanes band...played with Storm. The Pogues...The Popes...Depech Mode...Joe Strummer...U2...Sinead and many many others....he was resident at the legendary Filthy Mac Nastys from the first day till the last....it would not have happened without him...the gang was all here and we were not supposed to part..We owe him deeply and will never forget him....
We will post his funeral arrangments on our website when details are announced....
Thanks for all the wonderfull memories... Mo Chara....My friend
At home in your Emerald Bowers From mornings dawn till eve You will pray for me ...my flower of flowers You will pray for me My Wild Tommy......

Shit that is terrible news, I completely missed this. He was the man - he had the coolest looking banjo I've ever seen. And Slash stole his haircut too!
Very sad indeed. The Popes are great - I love their work both with and without Shane.
I shall dust off my tenor banjo tonight - see if the dam thing will stay in tune for the first time its life - and play a reel and drink a toast to a great musician.
RIP
