I can't seem to reply to it...so here's my votes - these are the 2006 albums that I am hugely impressed with (in order of my opinion of greatness):
The Go Set - Hungry Mile The Killigans - Brown Bottle Hymnal Mutiny - Co-op Brewery Greenland Whalefishers - Hit the Ground The Larkin Brigade - Paddy Keys for Mayor The Mahones - Take No Prisoners Biblecode Sundays - Ghosts of Our Past Flogging Molly - Whiskey on a Sunday (I know its not a real album, but I'm going to nominate it anyway cos its a great DVD, the Laura plus the live tracks are wicked and I just love this band)

The Killigans
Greenland Whalefishers
Rum Rebellion - Crusin for a Brusin
Circled By Hounds - Chasing Our Tales (best trad cd I've heard in a while from former Toad in the Hole members) - think Toad "Light". Not sure it's for sale yet outside of shows as internet site is not yet up. 13 trad songs + 3 former Toad songs. Plus=Kathryn's voice & Liz's flute. Con=no new songs by Matty.

2005, but a great cd. My Pappy was a Pistol got no airplay or any hype when it came out, so it deserves to be up for 2006 anyway.

One or two on paddyrock might be a possible add, but too late to check out. I didnt know Larkin was out and I'm trying to secure a copy of Mr Irish Bastard as I write. Germans doing Irish music are always interesting for some reason.

Germans doing Irish music are always interesting for some reason. I saw that, sounded good, although I'd rather do it through a website then email and send cash. I'll also say I didn't know there was a new Larkin cd out, however I ordered it just now along with the new Barley Juice cd.

I may have put some of them in a different order, but Black47? Where did that come from? While I give Black47 all the credit for pulling me into Irish music and genealogy in the early '90, I dont know about top 10 material. Guess I'll be forced to go check it out, which is the good thing about this board. I sort of lost interest in them when Chris Byrne left and the internet opened up access to so many other groups. A great live group, even my oldest daughter who hates Irish music was up front dancing when I dragged her to a festival they were at.
I also think the Rum Rebellion CD was better than a few on the list.

b47 is a best off/rareities - it just really reminds me of how good these guys were in the early to mid 90's
RR - I haven't had the chance to spend much time with the CD but I wanted to give 'em a mention cos all the feedback I've heard was very strong

all the feedback I've heard was very strong as it should be..... and I have no complaints about the list, all very good cds. The only one I haven't heard is the B47 one and I guess since its a best of I sort have already heard it. I have 3 or 4 B47 cds around.

After this post I managed to find 2 old cassettes of the following Black47 radio broadcasts I had taped. I havent listened to them in 10 years and forgot I even had them. 5/29/93 Asbury Park concert on the beach 3/13/04 Vin Scelsa Show - This might be the show that some of the songs on the CD came from. If I can get a guy at work to burn mp3's from cassettes, I'll make them available for download if anyone is interested. I know he can do vinyl, not sure about cassettes. b47 is a best off/rareities - it just really reminds me of how good these guys were in the early to mid 90's

Good list I reckon! Only ones I haven't heard from the Top 10 are the Junkman's choir one and Black 47. I have one B47 album, but it never really did it for me... Might have to check out the Junkman's Choir one though and I've just started downloading Rum Rebellion: Cruisin' for a Boozin' off iTunes.

Hey everyone... thanks for mentioning the new Larkin... thats it for self promotion.. now I need a shower and a shot... cheers Chad/Larkin ;D
