Hey,
Can't quite remember if I've asked this already, so if I have bear w/ me.
Does anyone know of any bands that do their own folk-punk? I mean that Celtic music is the folk music of Ireland, Scotland, Wales, etc. so Celtic Punk is like Irish folk-punk, right? So do any other distinct cultures do the same, with the local youth punking-up the folk music?
Imagine Arabic or Near Eastern music with punk.
Anyone know any bands like that?
P.S.: No gypsy-punk please!

Les Negresses Vertes did a similar thing with traditional French music in the late 1980s ...

I've not heard any arabic folk punk of sorts...
Eastern european music as we know it, pretty much falls into that minor or 'gypsy' punk that yer so dead set against.
So.. dunno what t'tell ya

Thanks, just thought i'd ask.
and i'm not set against it, I just didn't want everyone saying "Ooh this is 'Eastern Euro' punk this is what he wants!" cause I already have buckets of that kind of thing ( Zydepunks, Zapozain, etc.)
Thanks anyways

What about the Ukrainians, which was a spin-off from English alternative rock band the Wedding Present? They put out some fine albums of thrashy Ukrainian folk, some of which was really amazing.
No, I don't consider it gypsy.
