Hi Folks,
Just wondering if anyone can help with an enquiry.
We can all probably name half a dozen bands in the Celt punk style that have bagpipes (the Real McKenzies, the Go Set, etc.).
What I am wondering is whether there are any Celt punk combos that use Uilleann pipes. (And apologies if I don't have the spelling quite right.) These are the pipes that feature in Irish traditional music, as distinct from the bagpipes in Scottish traditional music. Quite a different sound.
Let me know if you can give me a heads-up on some bands you think I should hear!
Cheers.

Black47 is the only one that comes to mind.

Of course! And there's Seanchai as well.
But what about slightly more rockin' bands in the Mollys / Murphys / Tossers mould?

Icewagon Flu uses them occasionally, so does Fathom, and of course Horslips, although these are more in the Folk Rock vein. And solidly in the metal end of the spectrum is In Extremo.
Sorry. That's all I can think of. And I agree. They have a much sweeter sound and are sadly lacking from too many bands.

Kinda made me laugh, years ago. Saw the McKenzies somewhere, an' they were takin' potshots at the Murphys. I lost my shit when the singer said somethin' akin' to "Yeah... Well at least we know the difference between Irish and Scottish pipes..."

Ya know, the first time I heard those Uilleann pipe things was way back when U2 weren't so bad. I was never a huge fan, but I remember their second album, October, had an amazing song called 'Tomorrow' with the pipes wailing away.
