Hi All,
This Thursday, 2/19, The Gobshites are playing the Pogues' "Rum, Sodomy, and the Lash" in its' entirety at Church on Kilmarnock street in Boston. All Mod Cons will be playing, well, "All Mod Cons" by The Jam, and another band (I'm blanking on their name, sorry) will be playing "Love Songs for the Retarded" by The Queers. I believe the fun starts at 9 or so.
Also, we're heading down to DC this year for Shamrockfest! This will be our first time there, but Jeff, our Fiddle player, has performed there as a member of Charm City Saints. After the fest, we're hightailing it back up to Boston to play the parade in Southie on the 15th.
We were supposed to play on Imus in the Morning on St. Paddy's Day when he comes to Boston, but we found out last week that the slot was taken out from under us and given to Bible Code Sunday's. Fair play to them, but we're a bit miffed about how it all went down, especially now that they've canceled us with little to no time to fill that vacancy (not to mention the money we've now lost out on, and all the arrangements we had to make individually to be able to be there). Can't really blame BCS for wanting the exposure, but it would have been nice to see some solidarity, particularly since we're also playing with them at McGann's the night beforehand, and I think another show later in the week. Showbiz sucks. Not so much the show, but the biz part.
And we have a trad side project featuring myself, Jeff, Dave (our banjo player) and Pete called The Eejits, playing our first gig at Casey O'Connor's this Sunday, 2/22. I think we go from 3-7. If you haven't been, it's been open for about a year, and they serve great food (and a decent pint, too, IMO). Come down and see us if you can.
