So has anyone got this yet? Release date is the 25th, ya? Anybody seen the documentary? I heard it was showing at some theatres...
Doubt it'll be released locally at all here - none of their other albums have been so I ordered it off interpunk. Hoping the postal service will do me proud and deliver it this week, but I'm not holding my breath, it has a few thousand kilometres to travel.
Anyway - I'm keen to hear if its any good. Ha! - like it wouldn't be. Also wondering how much live footage is on it - I'm hoping for a fair bit.

Let us know if the documentary contains full versions or if they cut or talk over the songs. I couldnt believe how they f'd-up the Dylan doc. Why do film makers think we'd rather hear them talk than listen to the music? I was a big fan of Dylan in the 60's but wouldnt pay 2 cents to hear 15 second song clips. Hope FM didnt make the same mistake.

I am SO IMPRESSED with Interpunk - my copy actually arrived on Wednesday afternoon (26/7) over here - which is still the 25th in the USA - that is just excellent.
Anyway, I didn't pick up my mail till yesterday and then went to see the Pirates of the Carribbean last night so I haven't watched the DVD yet - but did listen to the CD - very cool.
Laura is a great song, loved it on Alive Behind the Green Door and the studio version is great too. I think Drunken Lullabies (and to a lesser extend The Wanderlust) lost something in the drop of pace, but the other accoustic ones are just AWESOME. As for the live ttracks - just fantastic, immediately took me back to the gig in May....ah brilliant!
I did (to the disgust of my wife) watch the 2 live bonus songs on the DVD and the first 5 minutes of the documentary at 1am this morning...and I think it is going to be GREAT. It starts with the band at a festival (I think it was in Norway, I've forgotten...) all talking about the up-coming gig and initially wondering how they'd be received and then as all the punks started showing up they realised it was going to be quite messy. And it had a cool scene of Dave King showing the sticker on his guitar reading "What Would Johnny Cash Do?" and then giving the big finger. They then launch into a song which does fade back into the interview - but you definitely get much more than 15 seconds.
NJPaddy - I couldn't agree with your sentiments more though, I have a big beef with the DVD release of The Pogues Live at the Town and Country Club where they keep cutting songs short to get Joe Strummer to talk about them - don't get me wrong, I like hearing what he says about the band and each song, but I hate it when they cut the song short to show it. There should also be a feature on the DVD where you can watch the show end-to-end without the interview bits in between - WE HAVE THE TECHNOLOGY!!!!
Anyway...I'll sit down with a few beers and watch the whole documentary tonight - its gonna be wicked!

Im gonna ramble here........
this DVD was completely awesome. Picked it up here in lincoln last night for 11.99!! what a steal.
I popped it in around 10pm last night and watched it all, I just couldnt turn it off.
I was kind of dissappointed with the slower accoustic songs on the cd, they definately lost something...but still cool to hear.
The documentary was really really good....I dont think anyone should be dissappointed with it...After seeing FM live back in march, I was kind of mad about how shitty the sound was, and that I really couldnt see them, and could hear nothing but bass and very loud banjo....after that, I wasnt impressed with their live show, but this made me love them all over again....they give a "life story" of each of the members, side one dummy even gets pretty involved....a lot of it is pretty moving, and very real....the live songs, go for around a minute or so without cutting in and out, but I was actually more interested to hear what they had to say....theres a great scene during tenement square on the little guitar breakdown/solo...its just awesome to see King and Casey go at it..enjoy!

Yes indeed, it is a mighty fine documentary - extremely well done and so dam personal - crikey Dave King especially lets it all hang out! Fantastic, I was totally rivetted. What a story of unlikely success...just inspiring. (And correction to my post above - it is Switzerland that it starts in, not Norway - somewhere miles from me anyway ) So yep, extremely highly recommended. It is definitely a documentary, not a concert DVD - and I sure hope they release one of those as the live footage is just tremendous. My favourite line has to be the one where Bridgit quietly says something like "We take traditional Irish music and turn it into a train wreck". Nicely understated... And as a final note - I recommend having a few drinks while watching, makes it almost feel like you're there

It is excellent. It's cool to hear the stories and stuff, totally rekindled my love of the band. Really moving shit.

sorry, I actually think that sweet guitar solo scene was on black friday rule.
the only complaint I can file with this thing is how easy they made it seem like it happened. One day, Dave king decides to get 6 other guys, they play molly malones every monday night, side one checks em out, and they are famous. They didnt say anything about playing early shitty shows, trouble finding members, and all that...maybe thats not how it happened, I just find it hard to believe they didnt have to work their arses off the get noticed...but I could be wrong

just remember King has been recording music since the early '80s so I'm sure he's been through his fare share of crap. I remember one band he had in the late 80s - QED - which got nowhere bar a couple of singles and a regular gig in The Baggot Inn.

Ah - but I'd watched it 3 times before you got your copy And my T-Shirt will be perfect for next March 17th....don't think I own any other green ones And if it weren't for people like me paying our hard earned cash, people like you wouldn't have a job to write about it, and band's like FM wouldn't be able to afford to come and play in Australia, and people like me wouldn't have had the opportunity to go and see them! ;D Ah, I love it...so where can I read your review of it then?

Ah, but look at all those peeps who will go out and buy the DVD because of my review, and I would have bought it anyway ;D The DVD missed the deadline for the first fanzine I wrote for, as the mag went to print this week, in time for the Wasted festival next weekend, however I just managed to squeeze in a review of the Bristol show that should have made it in time. The DVD review should follow later this year no doubt...though if I can get my arse in gear to write it sooner I will chuck it up here for your perusal...

Great flick. Make sure you file this as a Documentary in the Soul section, right next to Aretha Franklin!
