this cd is very good, i don't know if this is better than their previous albums though. I didn't even know there was a new cd until a friend told me to download it from him. I really like the song "Caoineadh Blood In The Streets." very good lyrics... and there were a few tracks that clocked in over 6 or 7 minutes but don't get boring. Overall i would give it a 4 out of 5.

yeah i agree, although mud in yer eye is basically necked re-recorded n mastered with a few extra tracks. think they should have put the track 'shite n onions' on either mud in yer eye or sod em though. off the new cd...the psycho ceilidh mayhem set...thats crackin' tune!

Am very much looking forward to this release myself - according to the mailshot I received yesterday from Neck and the Hibernian Records website, the CD is due for release on the 18th April in the UK and Ireland. Am seeing SLF next Thursday at the Bristol Academy, it's a shame that Neck aren't doing the whole tour

brilliant!! had a great time! missed the support though as we were watching the ireland game in the pub beforehand lol slf played plenty o the classics, only thing missing was 'on the edge' and 'suspect device'. dug up and played a few random album tracks too that went down well and the stuff off guitar and drum seems to be pretty popular with the crowd too. great band ;D

I had a great time in Bristol on Thursday also...though if it were the same support band in Brighton, you weren't missing much - they were shite! I dunno what they were called, the only reason I would like to know is so I can avoid them in future!
I've only got Inflammable Material, I'll have to go out and buy some more stuff I think...

yeah my mate said the support were pretty poor! think they may have been called 'spear of destiny' or something if i remember rightly.
check out the newest slf cd 'guitar & drum'...even if its purely for 'strummerville' and 'walkin dynamite'. good record.
you got any shows coming up soon then?

I don't think it were Spear of Destiny - it were a youngish band, stereotypical NME fodder. Bag o'shite I'd say Gotta go careful with money this month (once again) so I've done my spending on CD's this month, maybe next month when I get paid. Gig-wise, I probably do on average 4-5 gigs per week, mostly local stuff, got a good one coming up in Bristol at the end of the month with The Filaments, The Peac.o.c.k.s. plus several others playing, bit of a half dayer there! I'm heading up to London for Mad Sin/Deadline/US Bombs/Generators etc. at the Camden Underworld, should be a good 'un...plus I'll probably end up doing the Jesse James gig the Sunday after in Brighton. Then the next away day is Deconstruction at the Astoria, Mad Caddies headlining that one, then the next away trip after that is Morecambe. Can't say too much at the moment but myself and a few others are hoping to club together to get one or two Sn'O bands to play Bristol. We're in negotiation at the moment, if we can pull this off then I'll let you all know.

nice one, if your gig in bristol happens then i shall try n get my arse along to that, theres far too few paddy punk shows about! did you go to the neck / mahones / warblefly show in london last year? was a crackin' night!
sounds like some good gigs there..specially the US Bombs, my mate said theyre playing brighton with the dead pets and some others so i'll have to look into that.

Still in negotiation Singloudsingproud, though you'll all be the first to know when I know for sure. Possibly end of the summer, that's all I'm saying for now.
Sadly I didn't go to the Neck/Mahones/Warblefly gig - I wish I had though!
The Underworld show on Sunday were superb - missed the first band though caught all the others. Mad Sin ruled, the US Bombs and Deadline were most excellent and I were well impressed with The Generators - a band I previously knew nothing about...all in all a very good drunken night!

Don't get me wrong I am a Neck-o-phile but a lot of the songs here, without the lyrics, are hard to listen to. Sure, they have a great mix of melodies and that's not to say that I didn't entirely dislike this CD, there's the Neck energy but there's something not quite right here.
I dunno, maybe its just me, but the mix seems off on this one. Perhaps by design but "Here's Mud In yer Eye" didn't leave me with the same feeling.
I tried different methods of listening to this release too but the vocals and instrumentals are muddled together on a lot of the tracks on this one making it difficult to really ascertain what Neck are trying to say.
Just to make sure I hadn't gone off the deep end, I have friends who've heard Mud compare the two and a the majority had similiar feelings.
The music itself is absolutely first rate however. Borrowing from a previous reviewer, "one of Neck’s strongest identifying characteristics is the "Arrangement." Can't disagree there; Neck's style is evident throughout and their brand of Psycho-Ceilidh mayhem underlies the majority of the tracks and if you're not concerned with hearing the lyrics, then you'll have no problems with this one either.
As far as the songs are concerned, the first track, "I Turn My Face To The Four Winds" is Neck for sure but it's hard to pick out Leeson O'Keefe's lyrics say for the chorus. Songs like "Everyday's St. Patrick's Day" fall into the same category. An example of nice rhythm but hard to make out the lyrics.
A lot of he songs fall into this trap except where the chorus comes in. This seems to be the point of the song with the most clarity.
Neck is a very enjoyable band and even with its shortcomings, "Sod 'em and Begorrah" has its bright spots as well. Most of those are in the second half of the recording.
"Diaspora", my favorite song on the disc, is a fabulous tune with a kind of a psychodelic edge to it. "Blue Skies Over Nenagh" and "Always Upsettin' Somebody" and "Star of the County Down" are Neck as you know them; raucous and alive.
The "slower" offerings like “Caoineadh/Blood on the Streets” are a good balance to the rest of the CD. The "Psycho-Ceilidh Mayhem Set" is awesome and really fun to listen to over and over again.
The CD jacket is pretty intersting too, giving the listener who may not fully understand the lyrics insight into what the song is dealing with.
I'd still love to see them LIVE!
On my pint scale, I'd give this one 3 1/2 pints out of 5.
