im a huge fan of purely acoustic music, and being a mandolin player i thought id recomind a few. www.celticmusic.com/dan/shatter_the_calm.htmlthe guys name is Dan Beimbron, hes a really god mando player, he uses alot of pull offs and tripletts. the 2nd would be anyhting by Chris Thile, the guy is th best mandolin player ive ever heard in my life. id recomind not all who wonder are lost.

cant really class them as celtic but if you like yer acoustic folk then you cant go far wrong with checking out the singing loins. can get double cd of theirs, 50 tracks for £10. theyve got a new record out soon too so thatl be worth checking out.

I also have the 'Shatter the Calm" CD. It really is a great disc. (Although the "Bouzouki" pictured seems to actually be a ten stringed cittern, without the octave tunings, if I understand the designations correctly. Comments welcome on this...)
Does Dan Beimborn have any other releases that anyone knows of?

Yet another owner of shatter the calm. In the liner notes he says he plays a SOS 10 string bouzouki tuned DGDAD, A 10 string mandola tuned GDAEA and then a SOS and gibson mandolin. I think I saw something on the mandolin cafe message board about him starting to record material for a new CD. You guys should check out rodger landes for another great bouzouki player, Ive got dragon reels (mostly him playing mellody, with other players backing him up) and House to House with randall bays (mostly him backing up randall) I got to take workshops and play with him (and randall) at a weeklong irishmusic camp a couple months ago. checkout thesession.org for abc file to some of the tunes on the cd. plus a shitload more.

The trinity college bouzouki aint bad. they're selling both the bouzouki and octave mandolin on folkofthewood.com for 450. I've played both instruments and honestly I think the octave mando had to short of a scale (20") to get that resonant sound. cramped my fingers too. the bouzouki might be a stretch if your coming from mandolin though (26") but it sounds way better.
edit: if you play mellody on guitar at all the bouzouki shouldnt be to much of a problem, same scale length.
