Violin solo in the closing section of "Black is the Colour" by Tears for Beers. It gives me the shivers every time I hear it... The studio version moreso than the live one, although that is great too.

Tough category. Instead of "solo," I am just going to list the tunes the spotlight the work of a particular instrument... I hope that's okay. Here's a few...
Favorite mandolin tune: After much though, I have to go with The Lash's "The Sidhe Set." 'Sthe opening (and best) track off of 'Every Direction' CD.
Fiddle: "The High Reel" by Horslips. Just brutal. I never hear this enough.
Pipes: I've always preferred the Uilliean Pipes over the Highland Great Pipes but they seem to be more scarce in this music. Horslips has great pipes and guitar interplay in "Dearg Doom," and a defunct band outta Seattle-ish area call "Pint O'Guinnes" had a few really good songs that spotlighted, (spotlit?) these. Not overly fond of the Black 47 sound, even though they use 'em a lot, (as well as a trombone!). Who else has Uilliean pipes?

Favorite accordion-based song for me goes to The Dolomite's "One More Bottle." I just love that.

Favorite accordion-based song for me goes to The Dolomite's "One More Bottle." I just love that. Singing Loins cover... That sucks... I thought their piper was amazing.

Favorite accordion-based song for me goes to The Dolomite's "One More Bottle." I just love that. Singing Loins cover... I know, but it is The Dolomites' version that is my favorite accordion-based song. (Saying that, I've never actually HEARD the original...) That sucks... I thought their piper was amazing. Too true. Neck also has some of the best tin whistle work going. Too many songs to list for my favorites from them. New CD soon, according to the site... The band Fathom also has some really good Uilleann Pipes. "Pigeon on the Gate" off of Pollution Blues is a kickass tune.
