It is 1pm on Paddys Day over here in New Zealand. That means 4 hours till I finish work and head to the pub for shenanigans. I raise a toast to you all!
The day has started well, I won a Guinness prize pack which arrived in a very timely manner. Only disappointment was there was no Guinness in it, however I now have a t-shirt to wear out tonight, plus harp cuff-links and key ring. Nice nice!

Radio show went well. Didn't get to *talk* a whole lot, but we played like 4 songs.
Went home. Napped.
Show was fuckin' packed. Far better of a fun show, than a good one, if that makes sense, but in any case was an' excellent night.

Hey Tom, glad the show went well!
I had a crazy Paddys Day...probably my most eventful one in a while, after attempting to drink my body-weight in Guinness I eventually found myself at 3am singing chariots of fire with the Barmy Army (legions of English cricket fans who are over here to support the English cricket team - unsurprisingly - as they play our lads). For anyone who cares, its 1-1 going into the final match.
Saw a few bands earlier in the evening that were pretty good - had a great night. There was something very ironic about it finishing with English songs though...hmmm
Now the attention turns to Easter - we have a rather unusual festival here this year, I'm going to see Ozzy Osbourne, Kiss, Whitesnake, Alice Cooper, Poison and Lordi. For the love of god people, could anyone imagine a more mixed up bag of absolute shite and legends? I've seen Whitesnake nominated on this very board as the worst gig in history...however I've always wanted to see Alice Cooper and Ozzy, so they should be great. Kiss should be OK too I hope...
Anyhow, merry easter you bastards, have a good un.

Alex,
Cooper is SO good live. Very professional, and an awesome showman. You're gonna have a blast.
(Ironic: St. Paddy's Day singing with the English, and Easter watching Ozzy Osbourne singing N.I.B....)

Ozzy Osbourne, Kiss, Whitesnake, Alice Cooper, Poison and Lordi. Did you guys hear that? It sounded like Murph just bought a plane ticket to Kiwiland! Happy late Paddy's day!

(Ironic: St. Paddy's Day singing with the English, and Easter watching Ozzy Osbourne singing N.I.B....) Hahah - how true, The Prince of Darkness on Easter Sunday - just the ticket for a Christian weekend holiday....hmm! Hadn't thought of that! It could be a challenge to find somewhere to have a beer before-hand too!!! I don't believe pubs are allowed to open Good Friday or Easter Sunday here. That might mean Saturday night after Kiss and Alice could be quiet too if it finished after midnight...although that said perhaps some places will open Sunday night at midnight so there could be room for a post-Ozzy bevvy or two. Will have to see... Now as for time-machining to 1988, that is a worry John, surely you could find a better date than that???! Heheh...although then again, I watched Iron Maiden live in 1985 last night, and the spandex is pretty awesome, it would be cool to see that in person again ;D

I need to start a Metal Thread ;D
Anyone know any good Celtic-Metal stuff? Thin Lizzy/Gary Moore's Wild Frontier and Mama's Boys were my introduction Celtic meets rock.
Death to False Fiddles!!!

Hehe, does this count? www.youtube.com/watch?v=XARWFpeeoK4We *do* open with Slayer... Jus' sayin'.. Also... It's a little less celtic, an' more.. eastern european, I guess, but look into Finntroll. Enter the Haggis, although this by *far* the exception, an' not the rule, does a pretty metal soundin' Lannigan's Ball.

The Band Fathom occasionally sticks a finger into the Heavy Metal pie, including a pretty straightforward, (almost rote,) rendition of Iron Maiden's The Trooper, and a bordering-on-metallic cover of Horslips' (not that I consider them Heavy Metal,) Trouble with a Capital T.

Oh...and Ozzy still has his voice, Whitesnake are musically good, but boring as shit (and they're songs suck), Poison actually put on a bloody good show, KISS put on a great show too and Alice Cooper is the man. And if you put your mind to it, you can ALWAYS find somewhere to drink...nice nice!
P.S. Flights and tickets booked - I'm travelling several thousand kilometres to see Flogging Molly in Melbourne in a little over two weeks - CHOICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You, sir, are a feckin' madman! (But I do admire your priorities!) Fair call. My liver is barely holding up as it is. If more Paddy-Punk bands came Australias (or better still New Zealands) way I would have to prioritise further...but for now Flogging Molly wins again. The Currency are opening which is very cool, looking forward to seeing them. Unlikely to catch The Go Set, Mutiny or Catgut Mary on this trip though which is a shame, just means I'll have to do it again some time before too long ;-) Rock on people.

Ahright, so tha' radio show we played the mornin' of St. Pats... They gave us the mp3s of what we did, an' two of 'em are up on the myspace.
The vocals came across a little quiet, but you can take a listen to what we did. S'an original called Kill The Liver (Which is the best thing I ever wrote based off of something I read on a bathroom wall) an' a Recruiting Sergeant/Hot Asphalt medley.
An' keep in mind.. that was all before noon.
Also, *well* fuckin' done, 17(88).

Thanks Tom ;D
I'm loving how many conversations we've got going in this thread.
Kill the Liver is awesome - roight up me alley. Very cool song. Best thing I ever read on a bathroom wall was "I fucked your mother here last night" and someone had written underneath "Dad, you're drunk - go home". Maybe somebody could incorporate this into a song at some point??? Heheh...
Recruiting Seargent / Hot Asphalt is gold too - nice bloody work!!! I never pictured Rowan Atkinson as the recruiting sergeant before...but hey I will now!

Heheh. S'true alot goin' on in here. One o' these days, we're gonna end up with our own forums (But not in a beggin' for it sort'a way, like The Sods pulled >.> ) but in the meantime, yeah, this thread kinda got hijacked four different ways.
--
The guy tha' wrote tha' line on the bathroom wall is actually a guy the band all knows pretty well. He's been workin' on my sleeve tatt for a year or more. An' he's the name I use in place of "My cousin Seamus", when we cover Aye Sir.
An' watch Thin Blue Line, Rowan Atkinson as a cop is brilliant to begin with. But I always wanted t'hit 'im. Black Adder was brilliant.. but I've had an issue with 'im since Bean. So I like t'think of him bein' hit an' knocked into a boiler of black-top. So makes sense tha' he be there fer Hot Asphalt.

Cruachan, yes. Skyclad, I'm unfamiliar with, at the moment.

Cruachan did some thing with Shane once.
I say Skyclad maybe 15 years ago with the old signer Martyn- in a biker bar in Dublin. They were meant to open fro Danzig but for some unknow reason Danzig cancelled and Skyclad pulled together a pub show. I remember most some of the audience came in full 'braveheart' gear - claymores and all - and this was a few years before braveheart came out as well

I do remember that program, it started over here the same day as Father Ted (some time in the early 90s I think) and FT still remains one of my all time favourite comedies, but I could take or leave The Thin blue Line, it was shite in comparison. However, I did like the detective guy who kept saying stuff like "Its my arse on the line and I don't want a cock up" etc. Rolled off the plane at 1am this morning after 5 nights of mayhem - I do believe I may have sacrificed my liver to the great organ in the sky...but hey it was worth it. Flogging Molly rocked, The Currency are FUCKING EXCELLENT, no 2 ways about it, and I scrawled down some ramblings on the show the next morning which I just emailed to PRS for inclusion in the Live Reviews section of SnO so yeah thats it from me for now. I'm going to go and die. See ya's!
