All great songs, although I don't know this one: home for a rest - Mudmen (How many friggin' names you got, Alex?)I've heard of The Mudmen, but never heard them. Aren't they a Canadian rock band with bagpipes? Or Am I thinking of someone else?

(How many friggin' names you got, Alex?) Wait! I know! 1788!Okay you guys! Please don't make me choose my ten top favorite Paddy-punk songs of all time. I CAN"T DO IT! (Also, I think its been done elsewhere on here. Mayhaps it's time for a new list.) But, of course, if I had to... I would need rules governing this exercise. Such as: Top-ten contenders would be judged on: 1. Never getting tired of hearing it. 2. Wanting to listen to it no matter what mood I'm in. 3. How often I listen to it, car, iPod, home, whatever. 4. Based solely on that individual song, and NOT the body of work of the band. 5. What else for this criteria? How about the "tie-for *th place" loophole? Should limits/restrictions be set on ties? Instrumentation regulation? Sub-genre classification overlap? These restrictions are governing the list formulating in my head as I type... Can you spell "OCD"?

I get it. I should chill out. Dude. Alrighty. In that case, here are a few faves of my own in this genre, (they are, however, based on a rigid and structured system of objectivity within the subjective parameters of "Personal Favorites." ) So I have issues. I'm at peace with it. Some of my favorites: - Blood Or Whiskey's Goodbye My Girl and Galway Town off of their Self-titled debut, (and mainstay in my top five favorite paddy-punk releases!)
- The Tossers' I’ve Pursued Nothing from their 'Valley of the Shadow of Death' CD. (Also a top 5er)
- The Tossers' Caoin(Lament) off of 'Purgatory.'
- Big Bad Bollocks' Pubs of Liverpool off their brilliant 'Night on the Tiles CD.
- Neck's The Ferry Fare from (top 5er) 'Sod 'em & Begorrah.'
- The Dolomites; One More Bottle To Drink from '...Hogshead of Whiskey.' This one gets me all misty...
- Scottish folk-rock band, Wolfstone's instrumental, The Appropriate Dipstick off of 'The Chase.' Great disc.
- Amadan ; Past & Present off of "Hell-Bent 4 Victory."
- BibleCode Sundays' Plunkster and Bang, Bang, You’re Dead from 'Ghosts Of Our Past.'
- The Skels' Stoney Road from their 'Any Port in a Storm' CD. Probably my favorite Skels tune.
- The Pogues; Sickbed of Cuchulainn and Sally Maclennane. Probably played these two songs more'n any other in this genre over the years...
- Dropkick Murphys; The Wild Rover from 'Sing Loud Sing Proud,' probably my favorite version of this song, and Time To Go off of 'Blackout.' I never get sick of this song.
- The Killigans; Story of Tom Mathine from their 'Brown Bottle Hymnal.' Simply an awesome song from an awesome CD.
- Greenland Whalefishers; No More Crucified Days off of 'Streets of Salvation.' My favorite GWF CD, despite differing opinions! (Mr. Murphy! Mr. Gillespie!)
- Horslips' Dearg Doom off of 'The Tain.' Big Mac nostalgic for my Horslips collection, and I remembered how much I love this tune. The balls!
- Flogging Molly' Death Valley Queen from 'Drunken Lullabies' and, of course, Salty Dog from 'Swagger.'
However, the more I listen to The GO Set, the more certain I am that I would be adding to this list, though.

(How many friggin' names you got, Alex?) Wait! I know! 1788!Heheh, that is a more witty answer than I would have come up with!!! Nah, as you have OCD, I suffer from multiple-personality whatsit-disorder. Can you imagine the confusion that would reign in my house and workplace if I was able to change my real name as often as my online one? Actually, seeing as this has come up, perhaps I should explain...I called myself 1788 after the Go Set song as it was a great paddy punk song - the first of theirs I heard - and it was all about our little part of the world and the 2 main ways it was populated, so I figured it was a good name to use. Plus it was short. And even though New Zealand wasn't technically a penal colony, when people got out of the Australian prisons they often came over here and went whaling etc. so we had our fair share of ex-cons as well as farmers etc. And it was really short to type, did I mention that? But anyways, I got bored of it and one day discovered that you could change your name, but in the interests of not confusing my peers, left the 1788 at the beginning and decided to get creative. Will see what I come up with after 1788 months of this....I think I'll be about 150 by then. But back to the point at hand - some great songs posted already. I am thinking a playlist (minus the Horslips song and the Mudmen one cos I don't have em) of all the above might be an option for the iPod. I might even listen to it when I walk the dog tonight, assuming I can still walk at all - I have an early gig and I am being paid in the form of a bar tab - and given how important it is to get your money's worth...well you get the picture. Now, off the top of my head - the first great songs by each of the great bands that pop into my head (apologies to the bands that I love and are not in my head right at the moment): The PoguesTransmetropolitan Boittle of Smoke If I Should Fall From Grace With God The TossersDrinking in the Day Caoin (Lament) First League Out From Land The Go Set1788 Union Man Scarlet Snow Biblecode SundaysCinderella Man Whitey Plunkster Greenland WhalefishersRocky Road to London Streets of Salvation Tears for BeersBlack is the Colour Drunken Sailor Flogging MollyWhat's Left of The Flag Tobacco Island Real MacKenziesCatalpa (not your standard MacKenzies, but I love this) Mainland Tae the Battle Shane and/or The PopesHills of Connemarra Aisling Paddy Rolling Stone (I love that line about doing an old-time waltz with a buxom irish wh*re) 5 Hand ReelP is for Paddy Haugh's of Cromdale Carrickfergus Dropkick MurphysBastards on Parade Caught in a Jar Filthy Thievin' BastardsThe Back of His Hand Bad Afternoon Sun Daly City Train (How the f*ck did they manage to make a guiatr sound that much like a train whistle? As long as my local cable company carries CBC and I can see Hockey Night In Canada, I'm good. Except to maybe visit someone in Branford.
But what this has to do with the original thread is baffling. Canada is a fine place to visit.
