I was wondering what procces all you musicians go about when your write your tunes. Do you start with chords, or mellody or lyrics? I generally tend to think of a general mellody in my head, then figure out the chords that would go with it then write an actuall mellody to go with that. Cheers.

When I write a song, usually melody and lyrics come together, at least the first verse or chorus, and then I work out the rest. When I'm writing music with Jonah, he writes lyrics first, then I write music, sometimes changing the lyrics to fit where I wind up taking the song.

the lyrics and mellody generally come at the same time. i usually base the mellody around a couple of lines of lyrics i start with and then go from there. it's hard for me to write the music first. me and my friend were trying to do something with a riff i wrote and we just couldn't work anything out. sometimes i do stuff to the mellody of another song and then change it once it's done to make it more original, or just pull a macgowan and hope no one will notice i stole it.
