If there's a forum for B47, there should be one for Gillespie's hairy-red armpit of death... i'm gonna go contact proboards.com asap...

black 47 is alright. some songs are great but some suck ass. too much rock/funk/jazzy shit in their music.

Actually I used to be a big fan. In 1993, there wasnt much out there. The Pogues were kaput and B47 filled the void. Cant say I cared for the their last few CD's, but they still put on a hell (can I say that here?) of a good live show.

I tried to enjoy B47, but it just doesn't do it for me. Granted, the lyrics are great, but as far as the fusion crap goes, i'm just not into it.
S h i t bands like 7 Nations, and The Young Dubliners, and whatnot shouldn't even be mentioned in here.

the sods steal tons of traditional melodies, but i thought that was what they were there for. but i still dont like Black 47.

yeah. so many of shane macgowan's songs have ripped off traditional melodies, too. and so have other traditional songs to others. that's what folk is. just a bunch of people ripping off each other until you don't know who started it. ;D

of course Black 47 aren't traditional irish, they're new york irish. irish-ska, really. i saw them live last summer and it didn't impress me. but i still love their studio stuff. it's more "beautiful" than the celtic punk out there. they've got a distinct sound, that's for sure. anyone who trys to rap with bagpipes (even if they are the chickendance) are good in my book.

I think 2 things led to Black 47's decline. One was the departure of their piper, Chris Byrne, who left to start Seanchai & the Unity Squad. He brought the hip-hop/rap side to the band along with some major attitude. Two was the increase in other very good celt punk bands coupled with the internet explosion which now gives them all exposure world wide.
B47 has a new cd coming out in March. Heard the samples & wont be buying it.
