A bit early I know, but like most schoolteachers, I am on vacation this week. That means long nights into the wee hours accompanied only by the Internet and my pint o' black, (the missus is NOT on vacation and retires early.) So I did a little surfing, shopping, and well, other things, (ahem, never mind those...) and decided to see which bands had confirmed releases for the coming year. My list is far from complete so if anyone knows of more, please include them! So far... 1. Amadan. According to their site, www.amadanusa.com, CD#3 is due out by April. 2. The Killigans went into the studio this past month to begin recording their follow-up to Brown Bottle Hymnal. 3. The Popes are aiming for a new release come '07, despite the loss of Tom McManamon. Tentatively titled, Mad Dog Rising, rough demos of four new songs can be found at their website, www.pumpactionpaddy.com. 4. My current favorite, The Tossers, claim to have a March '07 release in mind for their next CD according to www.thetossers.com. 5. Finally, at www.tmtch.net, the word is that The Men They Couldn't Hang have a release in the works for the new year. They have demo samples, (as well as some sample lyrics,) available online, as well. Personally, I would like to see a Catgut Mary release, hopefully fairly early in 2007, (those three tunes on MySpace.com scratch me right where I itch, but still leave me wanting more). Any word on that, Mr. Swan? I also would like a new Skels CD, but I say that every year. Any further additions, confirmations, rumors, even?

I do believe Fiddler's Green will be releasing a new cd in early 07 sometime. I think the Porters also have a new cd that they are finishing recording.

When I ordered the Meisce 7", Fistolo Records told me they hope to have a full length Meisce CD out this winter, hopefully February. Looking forward to that one.
I too would like to see a Catgut Mary release.

Our EP should be coming out very soon...only 6 months late so far!!! I hate to sound ignorant, (although it is a comfortable hate,) but who is your band, Doogie? I haven't been on the boards for a spell. Been off in heavy metal land... again.

Prof - Doogie would be of Whisky Chaser fame. First CD was great fun, looking forward to the next one!
Also hanging out for the Killigans and The Popes (didn't know about that one - cheers!). Plus The Go Set have some new tunes and have mentioned on their message board the possibility of another album in the first half of 2007 - wahoo!
And more of Catgut Mary would be just dandy, thanks! Did you survive new years, Will?

Awesome. Reading some reveiws I found them likened to Thin Lizzy and Motorhead, (and Motorhead by a number of reviewers!) and was immediately curious. Their CD is available at iTunes, (which means the wife won't give me crap about YET ANOTHER CD in the mail this week,) so it will be on the 'Pod soon enough! Thanks for the hook-up! U DA MAN!

i hear classic motorhead but not thin lizzy at all. though there is a celtic sounding guitar instrumental but to me it sounds more like an evil clannad then lizzy

Another band I'd like to see a 2007 release from. Band is from the Netherlands so I never figured out a way to order their last one. 3 of their songs can be downloaded from the web site. www.circlej.nl/www.myspace.com/circlejfolkpunk

I know everyone here has probably heard the song Troublesome Girl by Barney Murray and I remember hearing rumors a while ago about him releasing a solo cd sometime. I guess that didn't work out? I'm just curious as to why we haven't seen anything and what exactly happened. I'd love to see a solo cd by him in the future, it's too bad nothing has come of it.

apparently the Singing Loins are going into the studio to lay down some new tunes sometime early this year, so hopefully a new record at some point!

Have been playing a few shows with Catgut Mary recently, wild band. Really fantastic stuff. I believe that they have had a few recent lineup changes so Im not sure what their recording ouput will be in the new little while.
The Go Set are working on a third album at the moment. 15 songs written. It's due for release in May 2007. Looks like being titled A Journey for a Nation.

I've been listening to Jake Shimabukuro's cd "Gently Weeps" lately. Here's a brief description from wikipedia "ukulele virtuoso known for his lightning-fast fingers. His music combines elements of jazz, rock, Hawaiian, and pop." en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jake_shimabukuro

Easy to learn, too. But this guy, he is humbling. If you go to YouTube and enter "Ukulele" in the search box, his is like the first video out the gate! It's the nuts.

Yeah I love it, he really gets into his music, it doesn't sound like the typical uke hawaiian music. It's very relaxing but at the same time interesting. It comes highly recommended from me.
